12/2/2023 0 Comments Ubisoft connect vs uplay![]() The case has been escalated for investigation, so if I ever see any kind of solution I will post it here for posterity. Screenshot of my account management screen showing the accounts are linked.Photo of my save game directory on PC (empty). Is anyone else having trouble doing the uplay (now ubisoft connect). Photo of my Xbox Series X game menu showing saves stored on the cloud Sign Up for free (or Log In if you already have an account) to be able to post.Screenshot of my PC game menu showing no saves available.I decided to contact Ubisoft support to see if they could help with the cross-progression issue. I started a week free trial of Ubisoft+ because I owned AC:V on Xbox and thought I'd try it out on PC with the expansions enabled, but wow, this whole service is so broken I cancelled the trial immediately. The Ubisoft+ tab in the Ubisoft Connect pc client just doesn't load anything, so you have to hope you can access it via a browser (doesn't always load) to redeem games to your library that way.The Ubisoft account management page straight up refuses to load in most web browsers. Ubisoft Connect announced as a refreshed replacement for Uplay and Ubisoft Club It seems that 2020 is the year of platform rebrands. Club/Ubisoft Connect/Uplay/Ubisoft: Based on the Novel Push By Sapphire but I go to the app and it says there are no challenges OR rewards available.AC: Valhalla on PC never finds my Xbox progress, no matter how often I ensure the saves have synced to cloud from Xbox, and force a sync on PC. Cross-progression between PC and Xbox Series X just doesn't work.Same old rubbish.I'm stunned at how this service just flat-out doesn't seem to work. Following last week's news that Uplay is becoming Ubisoft Connect, a system allowing for cross-platform play and saves, it's now been announced that the premium subscription service, UPlay+. ![]() UPlay+ is becoming Ubisoft+, and so I looked again. That's the thing about a re-brand: it encourages people to look at a product afresh. Ubisoft Connect was born in 2009, along with the launch of an Assassin's Creed of the saga, as a platform to connect players in Ubisoft games that were enabled for this and get achievements, based on the more you play, the more free goods. That little phrase 'standard edition' somehow always makes me feel like a second-class player. ![]() I remember buying a copy of Assassin's Creed Odyssey as a gift, and being conscious I was 'only' buying the standard edition for £50 (rather than the deluxe or gold steelbook for £20/£30 more). The publisher argument always goes that the bonus stuff is cosmetic, it doesn't make a difference to the game's substance, but it does make a difference to how a consumer perceives their purchase. Ok, so letting UC update, then coping an older ubisoft connect install (if you have one) to the updated installation folder but keeping the version.txt file from the update (which contains 10872) lets it run without doing the update again and thus, running the older ubisoft connect version thinking it's the newer one. developed by Electronic Arts, Ubisoft Connect, formerly known as Uplay. By now we're all used to seeing every new Ubisoft game coming in a dozen different editions. PC clients and/or launchers, that allow players to purchase and download PC. The problem is not that Ubisoft+ will suck, but that it will make all of Ubiisoft's games a tiny bit worse for players who don't sign up. So expect more emphasis on premium editions of the publisher's big games and, if that last sentence is to be believed, fairly fundamental features (which you'd think would be included with the basic Ubisoft Connect) being locked into the subscription.
